Clicker TrainingDid you know that Big Tail Waggin’ is the only dog training facility in our area to offer a comprehensive group clicker training course? This program is offered each month. It is presented as a 4 week mini-course. It is an ALL clicker course covering the history of clicker training, the mechanical skills required, shaping and marking, not just using the clicker to mark positive events, tricks and problem solving. Sign up now at our group training page! Clickers are now also being used in our puppy, beginner and just for fun agility training classes! Why clicker training? ~ Clicker training is akin to the general positive training philosophy we have always subscribed to. We see dog training as a process of experimentation and discovery, and our job as one of setting up conditions favorable to learning for both dogs and people. ~ Dogs given the opportunity to think, are extraordinarily educable, over their entire lives. Clicker training empowers a dog to drive the learning process, and to problem solve. They welcome this. The more a dog is given the chance to do this, the greater their excitement and enthusiasm becomes for learning. ~ A clicker produces a consistent, neutral sound that is never ambiguous, as the sound of our voice can often be. ~ The technology of clicker training, works for every dog. ~ We want our students to see their dogs are capable of things greater than they ever could have imagined. ~ It is stress free. Using a clicker you simply wait for the next opportunity to click, so there is no frustration or disappointment like there can be when your dog fails to respond to one of your requests. ~ Clicker training involves teaching in small easy to understand steps, and a reward for responding to each of these. This hastens learning and is exciting for dogs and people. ~ An impeccably timed click makes it easy for your dog to be sure about what exactly it is you would like them to do. Many people it is easier to mark a behavior with a click. ~ There is no irrelevance associated with a click. Almost all of the words we use to mark a desirable behavior are also used conversationally. That means your dog hears them over and over again but no positive consequence follows. This causes a dog to pay less and less attention to these words, because they become less and less valuable. find out more… |
